Sighting #001
Hello from inside the couch
Who we are, what we're making, and why the remote keeps going missing.
Hi. You found us. Most people don't look this closely between the cushions.
Couch Cryptid is a small independent game studio. We're very small: the kind of studio where the "office" is wherever the laptop is, the break room is the kitchen, and every meeting is also dinner.
Why "Couch Cryptid"?
Because most great game ideas don't happen at a desk. They happen at 1 a.m. on the couch, half asleep, when somebody says "what if you could build a base on the roof of the diner?" and suddenly nobody's going to bed.
Also, we like the idea of a creature nobody can quite prove exists, quietly making video games out of sight. Some days that's exactly what indie development feels like.
What we're making
Our first game is Ashes of Eden: Survival, a multiplayer base-building survival game set in Northvale, a mountain valley that's seen better days. You scavenge, you build, you wall yourself in, and then you find out who else is out there.
It's the game we wanted to keep playing after the servers for one of our favorites went dark. A lot of you know the feeling. You spend months on a base, make friends and enemies, and then one day the game is just gone. We'd like to build somewhere new to call home.
What to expect from these posts
We call our devlogs sightings, because that's about how often we come out of the couch. Expect progress updates, behind-the-scenes looks, honest notes about what's broken, and the occasional confession.
We'll tell you when things go well, and we'll tell you when the build catches fire. Both happen. Sometimes in the same week.
About that remote
We don't know where it is. We've checked everywhere. If you find it, keep it. It's ours now. We mean yours. Probably.
Thanks for stopping by. Pull up a cushion.
